THE PROPOSED TRIP

SOCIAL MEDIA USAGE IN AMERICA:
Social Networking has exploded in popularity over the past two years, with the percentage of Americans maintaining a profile page on one or more social sites doubling from 24% in 2008 to 48% in 2010. Even more remarkably, as social networking has entered the mainstream, it has also quickly become not just an occasional diversion but a habitual part of American life. In 2009, 18% of social networkers in America checked their sites and services several times a day. Just one year later, this figure stands at 30%, even as the total number of social networkers has grown. With both numbers growing dramatically, the actual number of Americans with “the social habit,” who check their social media sites multiple times per day, has more than doubled, from approximately 18 million to 39 million.

Women rely heavily on both blogs and message boards when seeking advice and recommendations (Blogs: 21% of the total U.S. online population, 63% of the BlogHer Network; Message Boards/Forums: 38% of the total U.S. online population, and 92% of the iVillage community), especially when looking for information to help with the purchase of new products (Blogs: 22% of the total U.S. online population, and 59% of the BlogHer Network.)

Social Media offers benefits and improvements to a woman’s quality of life. Whether it’s adding convenience to a work arrangement, harnessing information for decision-making, managing relationships, or juggling a variety of other responsibilities, social tools provide a convenient and efficient way for women to manage the various aspects of their lives. The practical benefits that social media affords, combined with its emotionally fulfilling features make it likely that Women will not only continue to engage with social media, but with future related innovations, as well.

Now more than ever women are providing or very least contributing to their family’s financial management. Economic issues have forced many women to change their entire way of life. Women are even creating jobs and changing their own socioeconomic opportunities.
